Milton Krents, AJC radio director, created and implemented the Dear Adolf
radio series. For six weeks, in the summer of 1942, leading American radio and film stars such as James Cagney and Helen Hayes read a letter to Hitler that represented the views of American farmers, housewives, businessmen, and others. Krents had enlisted Pulitzer prizewinning author Stephen Vincent Benet to write these letters, which squarely answered Nazi propaganda and extolled the inevitability of an Allied victory. The series was sponsored by the Council of Democracy and broadcast over the NBC network.
